Top > Basement & Crawl Space > Support Post

Question:

I read your other messages about basement support posts. We hired a structural engineer who determined that our basement was over-engineered with its 14 support posts (8 feet apart) and cleared us to remove 3 of them. He indicated that there would be some add'l settling and drywall cracking, but that structurally it would be fine. So, from what I read, we will have floor creaks? Any suggestions.
Also, we still have some poles we couldn't incorporate into walls, do you have any creative pole wrap ideas? Already considering framed-dry-wall wrap, and have seen the "Pole-Wrap" product, but I'm looking for a contemporary or neat idea (aside from making the pole look like a tree).

Answer:

You will have floor squeaks and there is no way of reversing that process.

If it's in the way, box it and build either perminent or moveable seating around it. Book cases work well to disguise them too.
