Top > Basement & Crawl Space > Drain

Question:

We have been experiencing periodic seepage of a small amount of water in the basement. During/after some heavy rainfalls, water seems to collect under the steps at the front of the house and seeps into the basement.
We do not want to rip up the cement stairs to fix the problem. We recently looked into an "inside track system" that collects the water at the base of the basement wall and guides it to a drain. Are these systems effective and is the basement considered a "dry basement" after these systems have been installed? We are worried that the basement wall would still be wet at the base with this system.

Answer:

The wall would certainly have to abe wet because water still keeps flowing. The type of system you speak of is basically a bandaid where consideration should be given to work done by a qualified surgeon. I've used the inner drain system in the past and yes, the basement was drier than it had been but "Dry", as such, not likely. Think now also of the moulds that virtually erupt from this kind of situation.
