Question:

The house is over 100 years old with a stone wall basement and cement floor. It is too humid. I put in a dehumidifier (before you advised a fan). The tenant says it draws out 2 full buckets of water a day with the 1 window open. The other window is boarded up but there is a door to the outside. Do you think I can still improve the situation?

Answer:

You certainly can but it will take more movement of air and more open windows. The dehumidifier will get you down to about 60% atmospheric humidity but you want something closer to 40%.
