Question:

I am looking to reduce electric heating bills by installing a wood fireplace insert into an existing masonry fireplace in my finished basement. There are no partitions there. The house is well insulated. Will this work and will I get some heat from this unit upstairs?

Answer:

If the unit you're thinking of installing was designed to serve such a purpose, you can bet you'll get heat out of it. Technology today has developed to a point where heating units don't even get to the market unless they have efficiency ratings so look for that in the brochure.
