We had an addition put on the house 20 years ago that included a full basement. We finished the interior in the basement except for the concrete floor. We have ceramic tile in other areas of the basement which has proved very successful. The concrete floor of the addition has a number of cracks in it; they have been there now for most of the 20 years of the addition. They do not seem to be changing in size or heaving up or down. We would like to put down ceramic tile in the addition. Should we be concerned about the cracks, and if so, what can we do with them?
Answer:
I would not worry about them unless there were water stains around them. Cracks in basement floors are quite normal if we keep building the way we do now.
