Question:

I have boxed in the basement duct work using 2"x2" spruce. Would there be any problem using 1/2" MDF board to enclose it. It cuts easily and paints easily. Are there any disadvantages?

Answer:

Only finishing the corner edges will be a bit of a challenge. Drywall corner beads finish nicer.

Remember, even if you don’t do your own work around the house have to hire someone, you put yourself at a great advantage when you can intelligently discuss a project with the various trades people.
