Top > Basement & Crawl Space > Beam

Question:

We want to open up a load beaing wall in our basement. The opening would be 13 feet and would support floor joists which span 24 feet. The house is a story and a half and approximately 45 years old. Could you possibly tell me what type of beam would be best for this situation and the specifications for the beam.

Answer:

Not being on site, I could say nothing about the specs for the beam but you're on the right track. The people who sell you the beam will be able to help you with that. You might also consider auxiliary support before cutting out that 13-ft. section.
