Top > Basement & Crawl Space > Beam

Question:

Two years ago we purchased a turn of the century home in Ottawa (Ontario). Since that time we have been continually upgrading the house however, we remain concerned about the foundation support. The home has several sloping walls, a slanting weight bearing pillar at the front of the home, and it appears that the beams above the basement windows are bearing too much weight. When we purchased the home we had an inspection done, but we remain concerned.

Answer:

Of what you tell me, that off-balance pillar should have been addressed a long time ago. These things are not kind to you when they finally bid farewell.
