Question:

I recently obtained about 500 square feet of reclaimed maple tonque and goove flooring. The back side is rough cut and unplaned, and nothing has been done to the surface. My Question is should I do anything to the surface before I lay this floor. I was thinking it would be best to lay the floor without refinishing and then have the floor sanded. Second question - the ends of the boards are not tonque and grooved would it be possible to lay the floor without putting a tonque and groove on the floor.

Answer:

I'd lay it just the way it is and finish it afterward but because the ends are not T&G, I'd invest in a buiscut cutter and use it throughout.
