Question:

My mother is an fan of yours and suggested we contact you for advice on building a pool deck. Initially we had considered the platsic wood, but my wife didn't care for the look and it is really expensive. Now we are looking at cedar with pressure treated understructure. What are your thoughts on using cedar wood? Should we use eastern white cedar or western red considering that they will both fade to grey? Does one have better quality or characteristics than the other? We do not plan to stain it every year, but rather let is grey naturally.

Answer:

I wouldn't use anything but cedar for a project like this. The PT stuff appears to be coming off the market because it lacks environmental friendliness in the preservatives they use.
