Top > Wood > Deck

Question:

We have a pad of cement [approx. 3ft. x 5 ft.] in front of our front door that is crumbling on one side. We have used various concrete repairs and patches but they do not seem to do the job. It has now deteriorated to almost half of the pad. What can I do to repair and stop it from getting worse?

Answer:

Repairing it won't do a whole lot for you because, as you found out, new masonry will not readily adhere to old. You might give some thought to leaving the pad where it is and building a slightly larger wooden deck over it. If it has also sunk on the other hand, you'll have to break it up and replace it with either concrete or wood or whatever.
