Question:

We have a wood basement 2x6 walls. Do we insulate full cavity (5 - 6")? Do we insulate the full up and down or how far down? Vapor barrier how far down? We live in Saskatchewan so we do have -35 below weather. Appreciate your answer.

Answer:

That foundation wall should already be insulated and vapour barriered so finishing it should not be a problem. If the exterior sheathing is showing, I fill all stud cavities with R-20 fibre insulation, vapour barrier, electrical wiring/plumbing/heating/etc. and then strap the whole thing with 2X3's on edge so another R-10 fibre (bat) insulation could be added.
