Question:

Any advice on how to get dents out of a pine dining table. One dent is fairly severe, in that the fibre of the wood is broken.

Answer:

Once the dents are deep enough to have broken fibre, they have to be filled with either an in-lay or malleable wood filler. If you choose to do an in-lay, take the material from the bottom of the table so you retain consistency in both material and age. If you have to use a paste, try sanding the bottom of the table top and retrieve the sawdust so you can make it into a stiff paste to retain colour consistency.
