I am considering building a water front deck using pressure treated lumber. I have concerns that there may be environmental hazards in using pressure treated wood in lakes. I am also wondering if there may be health hazards about skin contact with pressure treated wood. Are you aware of any such problems? I would appreciate any information you may have.
Answer:
I don't think either one is something to be concerned about. The lumber would not be permitted on the market in Canada if it couldn't be used in water front situations and as far as skin contact is concerned, it has to be handled by people and I've seen no cautionary notices. The Canadian Wood Council I believe has some very detailed literature on all of it.
