Our kitchen floor is single layer 5/8 particle board which apparently got wet during construction. The floor creaks and feels like it moves under foot. Would that be the wood riding up and down on the nails? We want to replace the lino but are wondering if we should replace the sub floor to stop the danged squeaking. Will doing this compromise the structure in any way? I've tried flooring screws and power nailing in other areas with limited sucess in stopping the squeaks. Anything else we can do to stop the squeaks? Fully finished basement means we can't get at the floor from under.
Answer:
If re-attaching worked in other places, it will probably work here too. If you're pulling the old stuff out anyway, I'd try it before anything else.
