Question:

We have an oversized double garage and live in an area prone to shifting due to clay. The asphalt floor and driveway need replacement due to ruts, lips etc. We are considering installing a cement floor but wonder if this is cost effective. A neighbour that put in a cement garage floor three years ago has experienced some cracking. If we go with a cement floor, how long do we need to wait before we can we seal it with the boiled linseed oil mixture?

Answer:

Perhaps your neighbour's contractor used too liquid a mix to lay the concrete. Your idea is certainly cost effective and the only thing that will last the way you want it to. You'll have to wait till next spring to seal it though.
