We live in a century brick home that has what I believe to be yellow pine floors. We had them refinished after a water pipe broke but I found them to be softer than they were before. We have a dog and the first time on the floor he scratched it badly so he is now banned from the living room. Can you recommend a finish or a finishing procedure that would retain the beauty of these floors and but that would be harder and scratch resistant? Does harder mean more slippery?
Answer:
Rather than the floor being softer than before, I believe its the finish that hadn't aged as much as the old finish before your dog came along. There isn't a whole lot you'll be doing here because dogs' nails and wood floors, no matter what kind of wood, don't get along.
