Question:

Some call them pets, we don't. First: squirrels. We have a few planters on the fence in our back cedar deck. We have tried a number of tricks (pepper, gravel) but the neighbourhood squirrels continue to eat leaves and flowers. Any suggestions how to eliminate or atleast reduce the nuisance? Second: cats. They have adopted our deck as their private bathroom. The results are much less than appealing.

Answer:

For both problems, your best bet is a visit to your local nursery and get advice there. Some remedies are permitted in only some jurisdictions and others are more global.
