I have just bought a house out in the country. I have a resident beaver who is blocking our ditches and colvert. Can you recommend a way to get rid of this animal that does not involve a gun or costly exterminators.

Your local department of the environment will show you how to live trap it, tell you where to take it to when you've caught it and then wait for the next beaver to take over the void in habitat. They've been around much longer than we have and they've survived basically unchanged so don't expect to win this one easily.
