I put 2 coats of a flat cranberry paint on my buffet only to find that the darker satin paint wasn't dark enough. I decided to go to a burgandy color, but the base coat has to be satin. They can't mix the color in flat. So it would have to be a satin base coat and a semi-gloss darker burgandy. Will I have to sand down the deep pink or prime it? I tried to apply the satin but it just isn't going on smoothly.
Answer:
Rather than sanding, try course steel wool on it because the sandpaper will only clogg and you'll go through too much of it. I would certainly put a base coat over what's there before the finishing coat.
