I recently purchased vinyl chairs. Unwisely, I chose beige colour. However, the problem is this--Her 2 year-old was painting at the kitchen table and sitting on one of the chairs. When he got off the chair his hands were covered in paint (the paint was child friendly washable water colours). Within 5 minutes my daughter noticed the mess and tried to clean the chair. To no avail. It is as if the vinyl soaked up the paint and now they have a marked chair. We tried water, fantastick, etc. As I said, it's as if the vinyl absorbed the paint. Since this chair is irrepairable, I think, what can we coat the chairs with to prevent other interesting items to be staining the chairs.
Answer:
Once vinyl is stained, you're dealing with a whole new colour because it won't normally give up the stain. I know its a shame to put slip covers over new chairs but its about as close as you'll come as far as I know.
