Question:

my mother is giving me her old (but in good shape !) parsons dining room table. It is currently white (seems to be a lacquer finish), & I'm not sure what colour to re-paint it. I don't think that it can be re-finished, as my mom says if it were to be sanded down, it's not a "special" wood of any sort. although, she did have it custom made @ least 15 years ago & it's a heavy table. Anyways, we have dark brown leather parsons style chair & natural oak hardwood floors. Could we paint the table black? or dark brown? My mom thinks we should do a dark green (not appealing to me) or a natural brown, but if we're only able to paint it, I'm not sure how that would turn out!

Answer:

Ask long as you follow the instructions on the paint can, there is no reason you couldn't paint it any colour you might want. A word of warning; buy the paint first and then the base that is suggested to apply under it but even before you apply the base, make sure you do the suggested preparation of the surface. All the products you buy should be made by the same manufacturer to avoid incompatability.
