Well, the answer you gave me about the edge bandings was very close, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for. I've asked the kitchen sources you told me to go to, and they know what I'm talking about, but they just don't know the name it either. Unlike edge bandings which are flat, these are thick. When they are inserted onto/into the sides of a desk which is already cut inwardly to accompany the 'rubber thing's' backside, they make the desk look rounded at the sides, when the desk is actually cubic shaped. The material isn't probably plastic, it might be PVC, but it comes pretty thick, and comes in a T-shaped form where the bottom part of the 'T' would be insered into the pre-cut wood board sides to finish off the desk once the formica is put into place.
Answer:
That is exactly the way certain melimine cabinets with wood trim at their tops and bottoms are made so you may have to check with a kitchen cabinet manufacturer or weather stripping supplier. This is a commonlly used technique but I think you are dealing with a specially made product. If you can't get in touch witht he original manufacturer, you'll have to keep up the search through cabinet manufacturers.
