Question:

I have an old wooden table, which someone layered on a tar-like adhesive to glue mac-tac on with. Do you have any suggestions as to how to get it off?

Answer:

About the only thing I know of that might neutralize that stuff is lacquer thinner. Take all safety precautions (ventilation included) with this stuff as it can be quite hazardous.
