Question:

I am looking for infor on how to build a simple wood bed frame to set a mattress on instead of using the metal ones that bend and break. I just need to know the materials needed for a Queen size bed, can you help?

Answer:

We've used this sort of frame for the past 30 or more years and have been very satisfied with it. The original one is still the one we use. I used 2X12 cedar to make a rectangular fram as wide as the bed (less one inch) and as long as the frame (less 15 inches). A very rough upholstry job on the sides is all it takes to make it fit the decore of the room. The short frame permits shoes and the like to be stored out of the way and when I installed another 2X12 as a spine up the middle of it, we found that it supported the box spring much more firmly. I would never change from it.
