Top > Furniture > Hinge

Question:

A couple of years ago I bought legs which enabled the table top to tilt. I have since moved and find that these legs take up quite a bit room and are limited as to the degree of tilt provided. I know that rather than adjusting the height of the legs inorder to give a greater degree of tilt I could create a set base and use hinges (which sort of look/work like elbows). My question is how do I know which of the numerous styles of these hinges to use and what size is needed to support the weight of the table top? The top is melamine coated particle board and is 50in long X 35in high.

Answer:

Without knowing details of the rest of the structure, you'll have to experiment with the hinges because to the best of my knowledge, hingles are made to support more laterally than verically and you are sort of into a combination of the two.
