Question:

What is the rule of thumb...for installing kitchen cabinets? How deep should base cabinet be..24" ...25" including countertop? How much height space should there be ...between top cabinet and countertop? What is standard height of base cabinets? What height for island?

Answer:

The tops of the regular kitchen cabinets are 84" off the floor. The base cabinets are 23.5" deep and the counter top is 25". The island is the same height as the other base cabinets and needs three feet of space all around it. These are more than rules of thumb - you don't want to try installing a dishwasher under a counter that is too low.
