Ihave layed down new 1 x 8 white pine in an 18 by 18 room plus hallway. I want to finish the floor having a slight amber to the colour but raising the grain of the wood at the same time.I have looked at samples of stain but the stain gave a more brown effect, less natural than what I am looking for.

There are water friendly oil stains at your paint store which will give you several degrees of colour change. All you have to do is ask for them. They're also very stable.
