Question:

I moved into a new house about a year and a half ago and I have had concerns over the quality of the paint job. The builder was rushed to meet the move in date. A sofa was tight to the wall. When it was pulled away, part of paint came with it. I taped a piece of paper to the wall. A week or so later when I removed the tape, the paint lifted off the wall. It didn't come off, but created about a one inch square spot where the paint no longer adheres to the wall. I recently put up a baby gate in a hallway. When I took the gate down, the paint came off too. I have some brooms with plastic handles. Sometimes when putting these away, I allow the top of the handle to fall. I now have several paint chips.

Answer:

Everything you talk about points to a lack of priming or a problem with the paint product.
