Question:

I am inquiring about build my first home without going thru the home builder. Home building cost increased so much for the last 2 years in Edmonton (AB). I am planning to hire a supervisor to supervise the progress of the construction. I wonder if you have any suggestion as of what construction company I can use to organize the overall construction/ progress of the home building from dugging out the basement to finishing.

Answer:

This is something you'll have to agree on with your supervisor as you are entering a completely different world. The individual should be in on every single decision you make and he signature should be required on every cheque you sign for the builder or his suppliers. You'd do well to spend a few bucks on the two of you sitting down with a lawyer for this too.
