Question:

I have been told that I must replace my old 7" chimney with a new 5". Is it safe or legal to put in a stainless steel liner instead? Price difference is over $1000. My furnace guy doesn't seem to want to return my calls.

Answer:

I wouldn't dare advise you on a chimney for a unit I know nothing about. That is tinkering with your life and I don't want to do that. Even if you have to talk to a second technician, follow instructions they have for you - you and your family are liable to live longer.
