I was listening about a year and a half ago and you made a comment that has been eating away at me. You suggested that a listener go to a store and look for the man with the greyest hair to give her advice. I work in a 'man's domain', the hardware store, and I get customers who only want to talk to a man, because I, being a young(ish) woman obviously wouldn't know what they were talking about, let alone know the answer. I love the business, and I just wanted to point out to you that it's not always the "man with the greyest hair" that will know the answer. Often it's the older men that are not aware of current trends in home improvement (or current names for the "thing-a-ma-jig" they bring in to replace!) Well, not to dwell, I just wanted to pass on my thoughts, and wish you continued success. I have learned a great deal listening over the past few years.
Answer:
I'm so very sorry you took so long to get in touch with me about this and I have to agree with you that not only the oldest are the best informed. You might have noticed that I now recommend going to a department head for best information. This may not help your situation a great deal but I have a feeling you will not have taken long to get to the department head level if you like the work. Customers may not always recognize enthusiasm but of what I've seen, progressive management certainly does.
