The hardwood in our new house is squeaking and popping badly. Our floor joists are open web steel and they are glued and nailed to the 3/4" plywood decking. The humidity in our home is currently 40%. Our basement ceiling is open and I wonder if there is anything I can do from underneath?

If its a new house you'll want to take photos and write a receipted letter to the installer (builder?) explaining the situation. It could have to do with acclimatization or faulty installation so archive good records.
