Question:

I will be moving to a new/old home soon with an 18-year-old oil furnace. I am getting quotes to convert to high-efficiency natural gas. The fuel oil tank will be full (200 gallons, 900 liters) as is the norm with a house sale. The gas furnace companies will drain the tank and remove it but will not compensate me for the fuel oil. With the price over $0.60/liter that is quite a hit. Why do they have this policy? Are there companies that will give me some return on those 900 liters? Strangely the advice I have been given is to occupy the house, burn off the oil as the autumn progresses (say to early December), and then convert to gas??

Answer:

I think oil companies are all using he same cuspidore on this one because they know that nobody else will pump and pay. I also think the advice you've been given is good.

In the interests of retaining credibility and in fairness to all, I cannot recommend prices, people nor companies for various projects.
