Question:

I've been calling around trying to find someone to put "shoulders" on my chimney- i.e. On the outside of the house, where the chimney widens at the hearth, on either side of the chimney. I need to stop the
water splashing from the nearby house. The bricks are getting wet and leaking into the basement. Everybody is busy around here (Ottawa, ON). Can I do this myself and how?

Answer:

This is something best done by a professional because it has to be properly flashed to the house on both sides and if you don't do that, you'll end up with both structure and chimney deteriorating.
