running along the back wall of my cinderblock basement wall is a separation in the mortor joints that started as a less than 1/4 in. crack and has worsened to an inch separation. the melting snow and rain this week has caused some seepage from the walls below the crack. where do I start in getting help to repair this without being mislead or costing alot of $$.
Answer:
Start you must and the sooner the better. Get in touch with a local mason who specializes in foundation walls. They'll excavate, do some repairs, apply an impermeable sheet, new drainage tile and then backfill. In the Ottawa (ON) area this sort of thing costs about &125.00 per linear foot of excavation. Get it done all around the house instead of doing just one or two walls because the others will probably need it within a year or so anyway.
