I have purchased a brand new home. It will be 5 years this October. I have noticed that my basement floor (wall to wall ceramic) has dropped. My floor has dropped an inch from the wall. I only have this problem with one side of the basement the other side is fine. What could have caused this problem? I have contacted the contractor and he want to cut half my floor.

lAt least part of the floor will have to be cut out so repairs can be made. It is very possible that run-off water has undermined that part of the floor and it would be a good idea to check while things are open, to see if the footings in that area too, have been undermined.
