I would like to repaint my 5 year old steel garage door. I need some help from you. 1.I have read your Q&A, the preparation seems to be scrubbing the door with steel wool and varsol and apply a good primer meant for both latex and alkyd based paints. Does it apply if the door is painted baked-on paint. How do I know if the paint is baked-on? 2. Should I paint the section between panels? If yes, how do I make sure that two panels won't stick to each other?
Answer:
The door manufacturer will tell you if the finish is baked on and you keep the panels froms ticking together by keeping the door partly open until the paint dries. This will take a few days because surface dryness is not enough.
