My house is a two-storey flat roof house built 1890, located in Ottawa's centretown. The houue was originally brick which still exists only on the front facade of the house; the rest of the house had the brick removed in the 1950s and was stuccoed. As well, I have windows to replace both in the front and around the rest of the house and also hoped to either re-brick the entire house or rebrick only the front again (as the brick is in bad shape) and re-stuco the rest of the house (depending on the price). My question is what should be done first - replace the windows then re-brick or stucco? or rebrick or stucco first, then replace the windows?
Answer:
Windows and other perimeter holes should be addressed before anything else. It will save money and effort becasue there'll be less probability of having these same windows and doors customn fitted or to modify newly installed siding.
Remember, even if you don’t do your own work around the house have to hire someone, you put yourself at a great advantage when you can intelligently discuss a project with the various trades people.
