Question:

I have been having problems closing a bolt lock on my front entrance door. The door has two side panels and a square window over and the reveal at the top of the door on the lock side is larger than the reveal at the top of the hinge side. It seems like the door is dropping which prevents me from locking the bolt. Sometimes to close the bolt lock I have to lift it and turn the lock shut.

Answer:

This is a very common thing with entry systems and the problem, more than anything else, is that the screws holding the top hinge to the jamb are bot too short and too skinny. With panels on both sides, I appreciate that you cannot introduce screws much longer than the ones you have but you can introduce screws that are fatter with courser thread. Try that and the door should pull right back up again. You might treat another hinge immediately next to that top one in the same way - I know it knocks the daylights out of its aesthetics but its a compromise between cold and looks.
