Question:

I just had 4 large 3-paned, and 4 single paned vinyl windows installed, with aluminum sills on the inside and outside, at the beginning of September. I have two questions pertaining to the installation. First, I noticed that the aluminum sills on the outside are slanted towards the house and not away from the house. I find this strange as the water collects and sits there. I did call the contractor back and asked him to fix that but he insisted that he has been doing it like this for a long time and I should not worry about this. I understand that this is aluminum and vinyl but shouldn't the sills be slanted away from the home so that dirt and water don't collect there? Should I insist that he changes this, and if yes what do I do if he does not want to?

Answer:

All sills need to slope away from the house and sometimes it takes a letter from your lawyer to convice the contractor.
