We are looking to renovate our attic. The house dates from 30's and has only 4 inch roof joices and 8 inch floor beams. We want to add at least 1 dormer over the stairs. One contractor said it would be cheaper to put in a second offsetting dormer so that the weight can be borne by the outer walls. Otherwise we would have to reinforce the floor to hold the weight of the dormer. Does this make any sense to you?
Answer:
It certainly does.
