Question:

We have just installed a new steel entry door(no outer storm door)with a new lock and dead bolt. with the cooler weather we notice condensation around the exterior parts of the dead bolt and handle(on the door surface) and droplets of water running down the exterior of the door from these areas. The relative interior humidity of the house is btw 40 - 50% ...what do we do as in the winter the locks will probably freeze and there will be frost on the door exterior?

Answer:

There is air excessive air leakage around the deadbolt lock mechanizm so you'll have to at least introduce a bead of caulking compound under the inner retaining plate and that should help. If there is warm air blowing toward that area, that should also be deflected.

Remember, even if you don’t do your own work around the house have to hire someone, you put yourself at a great advantage when you can intelligently discuss a project with the various trades people.
