Question:

About a year ago we built an additon on to our home (a mobile home unit) with an existing patio entrance door being moved to another opening. The problem is that something is heaving the door so that it won't shut correctly; I have had to adjust the rollers to the max and there is still a gap. The contractor assured us that the pillars holding the addition plus the adjacent deck would not move with the frost. Would we have to take the door completely off to shim or do we have to jack up the supports to level the floor out? I really think it is a frost problem, but wanted some other alternate solution other than redoing part of our addition. It has been suggestd to cut part of a column above a suspected support but am loathe to try just in case.

Answer:

There appears to be a condensation build-up inside the wall cavities around the door and to rectify that you'll have to remove the door and its jambs completely, insulate with a fibre product, add vapour barrier on the inside and the re-install. I don't think it has much, if anything, to do with the support posts you mention.
