Question:

We added a double car garage to our home in the spring/summer of 1998 and have been experiencing severe ice and water build-up on windows and doors due to excess humidity. Two ceiling fans are constantly running and a natural gas heater is always set at 10 C. We had requested that a layer of foil be installed prior to pouring the cement floor but, unfortunately, due to an oversight on behalf of the contractor, it never was. Would it have made a difference? What additional steps can be taken to resolve the humidity issue in our garage?

Answer:

I don't think the contractor's oversight makes a whole lot of difference (if any) to your humidity problem but I do know that if the garage is not ventilated, you'll end up with a load of humidity. Try removing the attic hatch and replacing it with a screen for a few days and I'll bet you find a difference.
