Question:

Have a bay window which is 5X5' with 2 side windows which we can open. The horizontal bottom is rotted to where my finger can be inserted an inch and a half into the wood. It is a thermal unit consisting of 2 panes separated by a band of aluminum or whatever. We never any condensation in it as far as I know. I plan to remove the bay window and rebuild the bottom. I never installed a bay window before. Do you believe that I could do the job with the help of some neighbors or am I getting over my head.

Answer:

There is nothing stopping you from doing it yourself. You might get in touch with the manufacturer and ask them for a technical brochure of a window that size. This will usually give you a blown up version of each component and then all you have to do is transpose measurements. It is very important that you recycle the gaskets wherever possible and replace those you cannot because if you've never had condensation between the glazings in the past, you don't want to start now.
