I want to switch my 200a service that uses fuse's to a 200a service with breakers. Now my question is what type of backboard do I need to have behind the panel. Curently there is plywood (non fire retardant) with a 1" gap off the concrete wall and the panel is screwed to the plywood. Now if i swap Panels can I just leave the plywood or do i have to install fire retardant plywood or fire rated drywall, screw panel directly to concrete wall. I also heard they've recently changed the rules on this. Also If the code is now that you can install service directly onto concrete wall if i choose can i still install it onto fire rated plywood or drywall.
Answer:
Because I don't know where you live and different jurisdictions have different rules governing this sort of thing, your best bet is to get in touch with your local power authority and they'll be more than happy to help. You'll have to get in touch with them sooner or later anyway because you'll probably need a permit.
