I have a sump pump below my garage floor. The garage is four feet or so below grade. It has worked fine for 15 years but this past winter I forgot to turn the heater on in the garage until the end of January. Now, the pump does not come on when water fills the tank unless I tap the pipe leading from the pump. It does shut off OK. What can I do to ensure the pump comes on when it should?
Answer:
If it has a mercury switch you might want to try changing it and if its a mechanical switch, you have but to change the position of the upper float ball on the string suspended from it. You may have to change the float ball itself too.
