Question:

I would like to know what to do to keep the water pipes under my mobile home from freezing in the winter. I have an electric heat tape on them, along with some type of insulating tape wrapped around them. But, almost every winter they still freeze when it is really cold, unless I leave most of the indoor taps dripping fairly fast. I have just flimsy aluminum siding around the trailer, & someone suggested putting plywood with rigid foam insulation attached to it around instead of the aluminum siding. What do you suggest?

Answer:

You're on the right track but you may want to further wrap the pipes with insulation. Hopefully your problem is above ground and not below.
