Question:

I read all your expert q & a's on attic ventilation and you didn't seem too keen on power roof fans. Are there negatives to these? My house is 2 storey,1800sqft and 14 yrs old with soffit vents all around and 4 mushroom vents on roof. It gets extremely hot in the summer inside and I tried 2 whirlybirds but they didn't help at all.Would ridge venting work better than a power vent at cooling off the house?

Answer:

I don't care for the power vents because baffled ridge vents do a better job at less cost both in instalation and subsequent operation. Besides, if I can get around it, I don't want electrical equipment operating where I can't (or won't bother to) keep an eye on it.
